State pension

This section explains the ordinary old-age pension under the Pension and Disability Insurance Act — the age, the required service and how the amount is worked out. It covers insureds first insured from 1 January 2003 onward; those insured earlier are priced under a different formula this site does not cover. This section is not an official notice from the Fund and has not been through our final sign-off.

What the pension is made of

The North Macedonian old-age pension is calculated by applying an annual accrual rate — 0,75 % per year of pension service for men, 0,86 % for women (чл. 34 ст. 1) — to the pension assessment base: the insured's own average monthly salary across the whole working career, earliest from 1970, with past salaries valorized against coefficients the Fund publishes every year (чл. 20, чл. 33).

Scope: this section describes the formula for insureds first insured from 1 January 2003 onward, mandatory members of the second (funded) pillar (чл. 118). Insureds first insured before 2003 are priced under a different, staged rate (чл. 34 ст. 2) this site does not describe.

Where to start

Qualifying for an ordinary old-age pension

You qualify once you reach the statutory age with at least 15 years of pension service (чл. 18). No provision was found allowing a pension on service alone, regardless of age.
