Pension FAQ
Short answers to the most common questions about the old-age pension, under the Pension and Disability Insurance Act.
When can I retire?
Men at 64 years, women at 62 years — both with at least 15 years of pension service. See the pension age page.
Is there an early pension?
No general early old-age pension route with an amount reduction was found — the review of чл. 18–19 found no such basis, unlike some neighbouring systems.
How is the amount calculated?
An annual rate — 0,75 % for men, 0,86 % for women — applies for every year of pension service to the valorized assessment base. The method is set out on the how the pension is calculated page.
Is there a maximum pension?
There is, in the Act (чл. 230), but only as a transitional regime, conditional on whether the insured joined the second pillar, and it points to a separate table (чл. 52) this site has not reviewed. This site therefore states no figure — not because no maximum exists, but because working it out needs more steps than this site has resolved.
Does this apply to everyone?
Not quite. This section describes the formula for insureds first insured from 1 January 2003 onward. Insureds first insured earlier are priced under a different, staged rate (чл. 34 ст. 2) this site does not describe.
